PepsiCo, Inc - a Global Leader in Convenient Foods and Beverages​​ had the urgent need to re-architect the desktop and tablet experience for thousands of global Zone and District Sales Leaders who utilize their Sales & Distribution App on a daily basis.

PepsiCo, Inc - a Global Leader in Convenient Foods and Beverages​​ had the urgent need to re-architect the desktop and tablet experience for thousands of global Zone and District Sales Leaders who utilize their Sales & Distribution App on a daily basis.


Understanding the daily routine of a District Sales Leader (DSL - also SDL)


Problem

NEED:

Optimize Existing Sales Pro Plus+ Product - Architect and optimize an existing sales & distribution application (Sales Pro Plus+), addressing ease and brevity of use, experience & flow, UI elements, and overall organization of information. The application is primarily used by District Sales Leaders to propose new equipment, launch promotional items, and encourage sales strategy with store managers and other decision makers, globally. Issues with the existing app included the unnecessary need to utilize 10 other applications in tandem in order to complete all required tasks.

Solution

AS LEAD UX/UI ARCHITECT, I DELIVERED:

Application Architecture & Design - Interviews and tested iterations led to a well-accepted, re-imagined dashboard and process flow which produced excitement and gained adaptation across Canada and other regions.

Process

The process involved continual meetings with both national and global stakeholders, orchestrating internal and external meetings with Innovations Team (leading 2 designers) and other cross-functional teams. A total of 45 user interviews with Zone Sales Leaders, District Sales Leaders, Store Managers and other users of the app were conducted as well. An intuitive approach was required to satisfy the needs of the business as well as the end users.

There was a need for urgent optimization of the current application in order to meet preferences of the stakeholders. I was able to redesign the Market Share section of the app so that users could scroll through most important data metrics as opposed to the previous arbitrary numbers.

Increase in Efficiency
On average, District Sales Leaders have decreased their time in-store by 41%

Conclusion

From revisiting UI components at the beginning of my journey at PepsiCo to enhancing processes and experiences - optimizing the workflow for thousands of Sales Leaders across the global company, this was an unparalleled experience. The original reason I got into Product Design was to be able to make someone's day easier, and with this endeavor, this goal was satisfied all while reaching key business metrics.
